ELECTRICITY GENERATION

Tunisia is a leading producer of phosphates for fertilizers, mainly from mines near Gafsa. Oil and gas are important exports, but growing domestic energy demands mean that Tunisia is now a net oil importer. Power plants are mainly gas- and oil-fired, with some hydropower.
