The education system

Literacy and elementary school net enrollment rates compare unfavorably with neighboring north African states; the widespread use of child labor is a cause for international concern. Al-Qarawiyin Univeristy in Fès was reputedly founded in the 9th century. The Berber language Tamazight was used in primary schools for the first time in 2003 as part of a ten-year pledge to introduce it at all levels of education.
