THE EDUCATION SYSTEM

The education system is loosely based on the British model. Primary education, which lasts for eight years from the age of six, is free and compulsory. Attendance is over 90% of the age group, which contrasts sharply with the high drop-out rate in secondary schools. Many private higher education institutions are theological colleges.
